New project started

I started a new project yesterday with my last yarn haul that I purchased before my resolution.

I had been looking for an Aran weight yarn for a crochet cable cardigan and something lobbed into my inbox from Knitting Co about Rowan yarns. I noticed it was Aran weight, and a combination of merino (lambs wool) and kid mohair with "polyamide" (whatever that is, usually anything with poly in it means plastic). But it was a good price and I really liked one of the colours ("nude") so I thought I would give it a go.

Frankly, while I was working on a gauge swatch, I almost binned the whole idea and relegated the yarn to my stash bin. When I took the yarn out of the packet, I was really impressed with its squishiness, and I adored the colour, but my gauge swatch felt awful, so scratchy. However, several hours later I was at a loose end so thought I would try again, because I vaguely recalled with the poncho and shawl I had that slight  uncertainty right at the beginning, and then I fell in love with both. Actually, for the poncho, I had a hard time putting the finished swatch down, it felt so lovely.

Anyway, I've done the ribbing and part of the back body and it's not as bad as my first conclusion and probably quite nice, and it will have a nice drape to it. I guess it's just at this stage not in the same ballpark as the poncho or shawl yarn combinations I used. But who knows what will transpire.

One of my goals with projects is to make things I would happily remake. It might be too early to say with this cardigan but definitely I would make the poncho and shawl again the same yarn.
