First post

Hi, and thank you for popping by and reading this first post.

It is the first journal post on this website, but I have kept a journal all my life, and lately I've noticed that all I seem to privately journal about is crafting. So I thought that I would bring it out into the crafting community. I love seeing other people's crafts and maybe there might be someone who would obtain some interest in my own.

I know there seems to be a trend for crafters to take their hobby to You Tube, and in fact most channels I follow on You Tube are crafting channels, so I think that's wonderful. But I know it's not for me. I suppose in a way this blog is an experiment: to determine whether this method is the best one for me. We shall see!

The only community site I am a part of, aside from You Tube, is Ravelry. The social media posts down the bottom of this post do not function and at the moment I have no idea how to delete them. (I do have to say I have some doubts about Wix as a blog site but anyway, will see how it goes). I've been on Ravelry for probably ten years, but only recently have I started being active with updating my page with my projects and so forth. I'm still familiarising myself with it, but hopefully I will become more active and proficient as the time goes on.

I have posted here a pic of a recently completed project: a slightly modified Alsace poncho. I made Hopeful Honey's Glencoe poncho some years ago and it gets great wear and I love it. So when I somehow came across this pattern, I knew I had to make it. It's mainly been modified with the embroidered flower vine, although I also made the collar slightly smaller.

I did 'go all out' and purchase some rather expensive yarn to make it from, from Knitting for Olive (details on Ravelry). That in itself was an experiment for me as I have never used such expensive yarn. I tended to gravitate to Lion Brand as I find their yarns to be beautiful and generally a good price. But I have to say that using Knitting for Olive has changed me. It was a surreally sensual experience. I have very definitely found myself now gravitating to the more 'high-end' yarns, made from generally natural fibres and hand-dyed. I don't think I am a yarn snob by any means, but there is definitely something special in the process of using these exquisite fibres like merino, mohair, mulberry silk, alpaca, yak...

Anyway, I shall leave it there for this post and hopefully I will feel comfortable with posting more in the future.

Oh, I should have mentioned. This blog is only about my crafting endeavours. Mainly I crochet, although I also do embroidery/stitching, do EPP, and occasionally I knit,

and play around with resin.
