Trends

In the final stretch of my Highlands Shawl. It turned out I didn’t need to purchase that extra skein of the Tweedie Sox. I had just enough. All good though, I’ll use the new one to make socks, which was my original intention anyway. The image gives a glimpse of the fabric texture and colours. Chef’s kiss.

I was thinking last night about the second one I intend to make, and if I should swap out the Rosarios for maybe a merino. But I decided against it in the end. I’m sure the Rosarios is what is contributing to the luxurious feel of the fabric. Plus, the reason why I chose it is because I wanted something with lovely drape, and something that wasn’t too heavy and suitable for the climate I live in. It does get very cold in winter where I am but I wouldn’t say that it’s the sort of weather where you have to wear your thickest woolies on a regular basis or all day long. Plus I don’t like wearing layers and thick clothes anyway. So for me anyway I think what I chose is perfect.

I drove to visit my boys today and in the car also got to thinking about crochet trends, at least the ones I’ve followed. I’ve been crocheting a very long time and I’ve probably tried them all. The trends that have endured have been amigurumi and garments. By amigurumi I don’t mean plushies. I did go through a plushie phase and I made a lot and enjoyed it, but I became very bored with it, very quickly. By amigurumi I guess I mean the non-plushie kind. I prefer to make mine from a 2 ply milk cotton and have a nice stash of it. After a long period of amigurumi, I tend to get tired of it and inevitably end up making a beanie or something and going down the garment rabbit hole again. I suppose that’s where I am right now. I was in an amigurumi phase only in October/November, I recall, because I made a lot of Halloween things. I must have exhausted myself from that though as I’ve been in the garment phase ever since. I can’t quite rouse an interest just yet in returning to amigurumi but I hope to one day.
